The Art and the Science of Perfumery

It always starts with sampling blossoms. A vivid image of the living flower, ripe fruits, blossoming trees and sometimes pastries. The organic synthesis and analysing process starts as the laboratory begins to blossom too. Between glass beakers, graduated cylinders, glass pipettes, fresh flowers, fruits , wood barks, lemonade drinks are examined for the scent they exude, the colour they showcase and their over all beauty. And in some cases taste too, as taste can also be related to fragrance, for example cherries do not have a perceptible scent. It is by tasting them that we are able to create the fragrant impression of the fruit pulp and shape its olfactory character by altering each compound presented in the formula.

 

Craft, Meaning and Science

When the fragrance formula starts to emerge from the research, we start to gather raw materials and essences. They come from around the world and have been harvested at the right moment. But it is the distillation process that gives them their full fragrance thanks to the extraction process : “molecular distillation, extraction co2, co-distillation”. Some blooms are so delicate that they must be picked by hand at dawn and distilled within two hours.

  

Blending Art and Engineering

With creative alchemy - drop after drop, molecules by molecules - we create our fragrances. We melange golden essential oils with emerald green plant extracts until the obtention of captivating perfumes. Reactions between molecules happen by adding sparkling facets to the fragrance. The subtle nuances of a flower aroma, the softness of ripe fruits and the memories of a cherished moment emerges from the melange as we finish the fragrance. For this reason perfumery is a truly molecular art form.
